What Makes the Safetypro AP2 Different From Other Air Purifiers
While many air purifiers focus on general home air quality, the xTool SafetyPro AP2 stands apart with its specialized design for laser processing environments.
Its 6-layer filtration system removes 99.99% of dust and absorbs 97.97% of odors—specifically targeting the unique contaminants produced during laser cutting.
Unlike standard purifiers, the AP2 features a cyclone filter feature that generates powerful centrifugal force for superior dust and particle separation. The washable, reusable filters save you money on replacements, while the pull-out magnetic door design makes maintenance simple.
It’s also designed with maker-friendly features you won’t find elsewhere: auto-sync with xTool lasers, customizable shutdown timing, and real-time filter monitoring.
At just 55dB, it runs quieter than most workshop purifiers.
6-Layer Filtration Technology: Performance & Effectiveness
The heart of the xTool SafetyPro AP2’s effectiveness lies in its sophisticated 6-layer filtration system that delivers laboratory-verified results.
6 Stages of Filtration
1
Cyclone
2
Pre-Filter
3
HEPA – Medium Efficiency
4
Activated Carbon
5
Carbon & HEPA
6
Ultra HEPA – High Efficiency
This robust system weighs 20 pounds and achieves remarkable efficiency: 99.99% removal of PM2.5 particles and 99.97% elimination of 0.3µm dust particles.
Acrylic in particular can be smelly. In real-world testing with acrylic cutting, odor ratings dropped from 3.5 (noticeable) to 0 (none detected).
SafetyPro AP2 Unboxing and Setup
Keeping consistent with the xtool laser unit, the AP2 was well packed for shipping and easy to open and unbox. Straps on the foam made it easy to lift out, even with one person.
This is a well made unit. It’s simple – really it’s just a case with stacked filters, but very well designed. The front of the case connects magnetically and forms a solid seal. Each of the filters is sealed in its slot with rubber gaskets.
What’s in the Box
Unboxing the xTool SafetyPro AP2 Air Purifier reveals a thoughtfully packaged setup ready for immediate use.
Inside, you’ll find the main purifier unit with its powerful motor that delivers super suction for rapid exhaust of smoke, particles, and odors.
You’ll also find a 3-inch exhaust pipe for compatibility with various laser machines.
For those with compatible xTool lasers, there’s a Bluetooth dongle for the Auto-On/Off sync feature. The package contains a user manual with easy instructions for setup, filter maintenance, and customizing shutdown times.
Everything is designed for easy assembly, with the magnetic door making filter access and maintenance straightforward.
Simple Setup
Setting up the xTool SafetyPro AP2 Air Purifier takes just three simple steps, making it accessible even for those new to laser equipment.
Setup is as simple as removing the plastic bags from all the filters and putting them back in their slots, and plugging in the power and air hose. That’s it.
Now you’re ready to cut and engrave even the messiest, smokiest, and smelliest materials.
The numbering and the color coding on the filters make is simple to make sure everything goes back in the right place after removing the plastic (or replacing a filter.)

Practical Use of the AP2
We have our maker space set up in the basement. Venting to the outside would require a lot of duct work and extra fans to pull the air out (and just make the smoke and fumes our neighbors’ problem.) It’s not really a viable option for our space.
If you’ve worked with a laser cutter or engraver, you know some materials smell pretty bad (I’m looking at you, acrylic. And leather. And, well a lot of materials.) Also – have you checked the residue left behind when engraving or embossing metal? Can you imagine breathing in those particles?
Even though I’m usually working in the basement and our xTool F1 Ultra has an enclosed workspace, the whole family knows when the laser is running. It stinks.
NOT with the AP2. It pulls the smoke and gunk right out of the laser engraver. With the air filter running, we’re not breathing the smoke or particles coming off of the laser. No one can smell (or hear) the laser running.
That’s a win.
Design, Noise Level & Physical Specifications
The SafetyPro AP2’s thoughtful design complements its intelligent controls. Its magnetic pull-out door allows easy access for filter maintenance, making cleaning and replacement a hassle-free task.
You’ll appreciate the quiet operation at just 55 dB, guaranteeing your workspace remains peaceful even during extended cutting sessions.
You can expect the AP2 to make about as much noise as a dishwasher.
Sound Source | Decibel Level (dB) |
---|---|
Rustling Leaves | 20 dB |
Whisper | 30 dB |
Quiet Library | 40 dB |
Dishwasher | 45-60 dB |
SafetyPro AP2 | 55 dB |
Normal Conversation | 50-60 dB |
Office Environment | 50-60 dB |
Washing Machine | 60 dB |
Vacuum Cleaner | 70 dB |
At 290×491×542mm for the main unit and weighing 20.7kg, the AP2 maintains a manageable footprint despite its powerful performance. If you’re working at a table, the AP2 can easily fit underneath.
The 3-inch exhaust pipe fits xTool models and ensures compatibility with various laser machines.
The streamlined design not only looks professional but also prioritizes function, giving you effortless access to clean air without compromising your workspace aesthetics.
Smart Features & Compatibility With Laser Systems
When it comes to integration with laser systems, the Xtool SafetyPro AP2 Air Purifier shines with its intelligent features designed specifically for seamless operation.
The Auto-On/Off automatic mode feature syncs directly with xTool lasers (F1 Ultra, P2S, S1, or M1 Ultra), automatically activating when you start cutting and shutting down after the job finishes and the fumes are cleared.
You’ll know you’ve got it set up correctly if the AP2 shows up as a connected accessory in the XCS software. It’ll automatically adjust the power based on the material you’re using.
Materials like wood will power up the fans full speed to exhaust the smoke, while something like acrylic will pull the air at a slower speed so it has more time to pass through the filters to remove the smell.
Even though it’s from xTool, the AP2 will work with other makes and models of laser engravers – it just connects through the duct and runs in manual mode using the buttons on the panel. (Or, if you’re like us, you’ll wind up running the first few projects in manual mode before you realize that the Bluetooth dongle automates it!)

Maintenance Requirements & Filter Replacement Guide
Maintaining your xTool SafetyPro AP2 Air Purifier requires minimal effort while maximizing its effectiveness for long-term use.
The pull-out magnetic door design allows you to easily remove, wash, and replace filters when needed. (You should clean the filters about every 6 months, though this timing can be adjusted based on your usage frequency.)
The cyclone filter on the top just needs to be rinsed off. The hours range between 100 to 600 hours of usage:
Filter Type | Lifespan (Hours) |
---|---|
Pre-filter | 100 |
Medium Efficiency Filter | 200 |
Activated Carbon Filter | 600 |
Ultra-Dense Carbon Mesh Filter | 300 |
High-Efficiency Filter | 300 |
The real-time monitoring system helps you track filter usage, so you’ll know exactly when replacements are needed.
